3rd North Wales FIDE Open
30th June - 2nd July 2017 - Venue Cymru, Llandudno.
Roundup
The 3rd North Wales FIDE Open (incorporating the 5th Colwyn Bay Congress) was held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno over the weekend of 22nd June – 24th June 2018. There were 120 entries split across the three sections with entries being received Germany, Lithuania, Poland, France, Slovenia, Greece and USA in addition to England, Wales and Scotland. Numbers were 30% up on last year so the prize fund was increased with additional grading prizes added to the Major and Minor, and junior prizes awarded in each section instead of just overall.
Notable local performances included David Jameson and John Shakespeare (3rd= in the Open), and Mark Bastow (2nd= in the Major).
Local juniors also did well with Imogen Camp and Ifan Rathbone-Jones gaining over 40 FIDE rating points from the tournament.
Colwyn Bay Juniors, Maximos and Nestor Pento, both performed very well in their first adult weekend tournament.
